The benefit of this product is extremely good water absorption, adds protein content to a product, looks like cooked ground beef and is cost effective. 1 kg of TVP will absorb 1 kg water by soaking before introducing it into a meat system and is still highly functional. A good example for TVP is a ground beef replacement. Back in the early 1980’s, there was a kick in the marketplace for cheap ground beef. 70% ground beef and 30% TVP (of which out of the 30%, 15% was water). The product was called Soy Burger and it had a really good price point and sold like crazy in 10lb lots.  The only down side is that it is still an allergen.
